The Swiss mezzo-soprano Judith Schmid was born in
Canton Aargau. She began her musical career as an
instrumentalist, playing the piano and flute.
After completing her studies in eurythmics at the Academy
of Arts in Berne (specializing in eurythmics, piano,
improvisation and movement), she turned to singing.
Numerous scholarships and competition prizes enabled
Judith Schmid to move to the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama in London in order to concentrate on perfecting
her vocal arts.
After returning to Switzerland and being engaged at the
Zurich Opera (1998/99), she continued to develop her
voice. Since her initial studies in Bienne, she had been
particularly influenced in her singing by Francine Beuret,
Christa Ludwig and Heidi Wölnerhanssen.
