The opera and the concert hall are Judith Schmid’s
principal fields of activity, though her love of oratorio
and of the lied repertoire assure these, too, an important
place in her life (Gustav Mahler’s Lied von der Erde and his
Kindertotenlieder are particularly dear to her). But
contemporary and experimental music are also important
to her. This versatility makes her one of the outstanding
exponents of her vocal fach.
Her debut album Rosenblätter embodies her credo, and
reflects her versatility. The specialist press enthused both
about its unusual anthology of lieder and her interpretation
of it (see the discography). The album was chosen by
‘Classic Magazine’ of Swiss Radio DRS for their selection
of ‘Best CDs of 2008’.
